Sanctity of Human Life Month: Life has value.

Every January, we pause to remember a simple, but powerful truth:

Life has value.

Not because of ability, circumstance, convenience, or whether it was planned.

But because every life is created by God—on purpose and with purpose.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” Jeremiah 1:5
“You knit me together in my mother’s womb…” Psalm 139:13

Sanctity of Human Life Month invites us to slow down and reflect on this truth. In a world that moves fast, demands instant answers, and pushes quick solutions, it invites us to pause and remember that life is not a problem to be solved, but a gift to be protected.

Why Sanctity of Human Life Month Began

Sanctity of Life Month began as a response to Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide.

But this month is about far more than a court case. It’s about mourning what has been lost. Since that ruling, more than 65 million unborn babies have lost their lives to abortion in the United States.

That number is staggering, but it’s more than a statistic. It represents real babies, real families, and real grief. Sanctity of Human Life Month gives us space to pause, feel the weight of that loss, and remember why protecting life still matters.

The Darkness Is Still Real

While abortion laws in Texas have changed in recent years, the need for life-affirming support hasn’t disappeared. It’s just shifted.

Abortion hasn’t ended. It has moved across state lines, onto screens, and into mailboxes.

In 2024 alone, more than 7,000 Texas women still obtained abortions, either by traveling out of state or by ordering abortion pills online.

Abortion didn’t go away. It became quieter, more hidden, and more isolating.

And for many women, more confusing.

Today, women are overwhelmed with information yet starving for wisdom and truth. They’re scrolling, searching, and being offered quick fixes, but rarely given the space to slow down, ask real questions, and talk through what they’re facing.

Hope On The Horizon

At Horizon, we see this every day.

We meet women and couples who feel trapped, pressured, afraid, and convinced they have no other option.

Some are considering abortion. Some have already chosen it and carry wounds they never expected. Others aren’t sure what they believe yet.

Here’s what matters most to us: every person who walks through our doors has dignity, worth, and value.

We are unapologetically life-affirming. We believe both mom and baby deserve care, protection, and support. At the same time, we recognize that abortion is a real part of many people’s stories and that it often leaves deep scars, even when culture tells women it shouldn’t.

We don’t shame or rush. We come alongside them with compassion, truth, and care. We create space to pause, breathe, and talk things through.

And when someone feels like abortion is the only option, we slow the moment down and help them see there are life-affirming paths forward. We offer education, resources, and support that value both mom and baby, and we remind them they don’t have to face this season alone.

Why This Month Matters to Horizon

Sanctity of Human Life Month isn’t just something we talk about. It’s something we live out every day.

This mission matters not only because unborn lives need protection, but because women need care, families need support, and hope is still possible in situations that feel overwhelming and lonely.

As you walk through this month, we invite you to pray with us for wisdom, provision, protection, and open doors for the people who need our help most.

If you’d like to be part of that in a deeper way, you can join our Weekly Prayer Partners, receiving specific prayer requests each Monday and praises and updates every Thursday.
