A Small Sketch with a Big Truth

*This is a copy of the email that Leah Watson, Horizon’s Executive Director sent our newsletter subscribers on Sunday.*

It’s quiet in the Center this morning. The only sounds are the soft tapping of my keyboard and the faint hum of traffic outside. I’ve stolen a few quiet minutes to write to you before I head to church next door.

My eyes are connected with the small framed sketch on my desk. It’s a simple pencil drawing, a gift from a staff member, during one of those heavy weeks when every conversation felt overwhelming.

It’s the moment in 2 Kings 6 when Elisha and his servant wake to find themselves surrounded by an enemy army. The servant is fearful, but Elisha says, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then he prays, “O Lord, open his eyes that he may see.” And suddenly, the servant sees the hills filled with horses and chariots of fire. Protection and support already in place.

This little drawing isn’t just encouragement for me. It’s who we are at Horizon. Our very name comes from the passage of scripture it depicts. It’s a reminder of the vastness of what God is already doing — beyond what is visible. Hope rising. Victory already at work.

That’s what we pray our clients experience. That in the midst of their impossible situation, their eyes would be opened to the hope, truth, and support already surrounding them.

And the picture speaks to more than the clients we serve.

It speaks to all of us… staff, volunteers, prayer partners, baby item donors, churches, and faithful supporters like you. Together, you are part of God’s unseen army, standing in the gap for families who need courage and clarity.

And that’s why I’m writing today… our End of Year Giving Campaign begins in just two days, on Giving Tuesday, a global day of generosity where people choose to support missions that matter. And you have shown again and again that you believe in life, in families, and in offering hope right when it’s needed most.

As we step into this season, our year-end goal is to raise $65,000 by December 31st so we can finish 2025 fully funded and walk into 2026 strong, steady, and ready to serve even more families.

I want to invite you to stand in the gap with us again— just like that chariot-lined hillside. Every gift, no matter the size, helps ensure that when a scared mom or overwhelmed dad walks through our doors, they don’t just find answers… they find a team already fighting for them.

Thank you in advance for being faithful to how God is calling you to partner with us!
