When Emily’s the test came back positive, panic set in. She was only a few days late, and couldn’t believe this was real. She started searching online for what her options were in Texas and was immediately flooded with ads promising quick, easy fixes through abortion pills. Fearful and desperate, she kept scrolling.
That’s when she found Horizon.
When Emily came in, she didn’t know what she wanted yet. She just knew she felt overwhelmed and stuck. We listened as she talked through her circumstances and her doubts about parenting. We offered an ultrasound, and for the first time, she saw her baby’s heartbeat flicker on the screen. It gave her pause. As the conversation continued, she was met with compassion instead of the judgment she expected. The weight Emily carried walking into Horizon didn’t feel as heavy now.
Stories like Emily’s remind us that while laws have changed in Texas, the need for pregnancy centers has not disappeared.
Today, abortion often happens quietly and quickly through pills ordered online. Out-of-state providers are spending thousands of dollars on digital ads aimed directly at Texas women who are scared and searching for answers. With just a few clicks, abortion pills can be mailed to a home within days, often with little medical screening and no follow-up care.
Many women never receive an ultrasound to confirm how far along they are, rule out an ectopic pregnancy, or fully understand the risks involved. And because these pills are only approved through 10–11 weeks, women often feel rushed to decide before they’ve had time to truly think it through.
To meet this new reality, pregnancy centers have had to adapt.
First, women have to be able to find us.
When abortion providers dominate online searches, pregnancy centers can’t afford to be invisible. At Horizon, we’ve had to increase our online presence so women searching in fear can also find truth, support, and real help. If a woman can’t find us, she may never know another option exists.
Second, we have to be available when women are actually searching.
More than 60% of abortion-related searches happen outside normal business hours: late at night and on weekends. Fear doesn’t keep office hours. When a woman reaches out, she needs to know someone will respond. That means we need to be available to answer questions, schedule appointments, and engage in real time. Horizon is able to do this through our 24 hour nurse chat.
Third, the care women need is deeper than ever.
In 2025, the number of women we served who were actively considering abortion increased by over 10%. Many of them are coming in earlier in their pregnancy and are under intense pressure to take the abortion pills. At the same time, more women are coming to us already having had an abortion and carrying mental and emotional pain and grief they weren’t prepared for. Pregnancy centers are no longer just places of decision support. We are places of healing.
the need for pregnancy centers has only grown.
At Horizon, our goal isn’t just to save lives. It’s to walk with women and families as pregnancy decisions in Texas become more complex and time-sensitive.
Grounded in love, truth, and grace, we are adapting to meet women where they are today and preparing for what comes next. We believe every life has value, and every woman deserves support during pregnancy and long after.
